One Girl's Journey to Saturday Night Live

My name is Lauren Bancroft and I'm from from Nashua, NH.

I started this Tumblr in December of 2010 to document my path to go from who and where I am now, to being a cast member of Saturday Night Live. I have a realistic plan with attainable goals that I work very hard at every week.

I do stand up. I study improv. I write sketches. I work hard.

Ten phases. Eight years. One goal.

I got some surprise stage time at Fody’s last night.

Alana posted the line up on Facebook and some great comics were on so I decided to go hangout and hopefully pop on up to Penuches in Manchester after.

She had three comics cancel but was able to replace two of them before asking me if I would go on. A few were doubling up too so she said I’d have to go on late which I didn’t mind. I’m a little bummed I couldn’t get to Penuches and see the other awesome line up.

I did something I haven’t done in a while: I sat down during my set. I did this a few times in the first couple months of doing comedy. Back when I was blacking out the only way I could control said blacking out was if I was sitting. Which is why I think that was a just a blood pressure thing. I felt so much more comfortable sitting.

There was an audience member who was a bit vocal, not heckling just having a good time (and also trying to set me up with her son while I was on stage… doing my jokes). I played with her a bit and was pretty pleased. I got a compliment or two from other audience members that my off the cuff remarks were perfect.

There were a few guys from my high school in the crowd and I didn’t recognize them until they said hi after the show. I’m always glad when the first time someone sees me do stand up is on a good night.
