My voice has been strained the past few weeks. When I over use it or try to talk too loud it’s been breaking and raspy. My mom sings and is concerned that I’m damaging it. She gave me some exercises to try. I really hope they work. Doing stand up is impossible without a voice.

BIG NEWS GUYS
Every year, the Nashua Rotary Club hosts a three day music, food and entertainment festival called Ribfest. Over the three days it brings in 25,000-30,000 people. This year they have decided to put on a comedy show the Saturday night of the Friday-Sunday fiesta. They have never tried comedy before, so this is new new new. AND GUESS WHO GET’S TO HOST IT. It’s almost weird how lucky I am sometimes....

Improv Level Two Class One In Review
Holy crap guys, we are not in Kansas anymore. Although that analogy would work better if Kansas was in fact the pretty fun place with rainbows and not the colorless harsh world of level two improv. Damn. My new instructor is named Kylie. She started at Improv Asylum 14 years ago, spent about 5 years on the Main Stage and just got back to Boston from studying at Second City in Chicago for three...

Holy SNL cast member changes Batman!
I am very interested to see what this will mean for new cast members to come into the picture next season. Do you think there are a handful of Second City or UCB main stage performers who feel like it’s Christmas morning? I know that only Seth and Bill confirmed that they’re leaving but I’ve heard/read rumors in the past year about Fred, Jason and Keenan leaving after this season too.  Quite a lot...

Things That Are Within My Control and a Few Things...
[[MORE]] Like most people, I like being good at things. I often wish I could skip ahead when starting new ventures to the part where I’m competent and comfortable in a skill set (again, like most people I’m sure). Before I started stand up I was quite the perfectionist. I would put pressure on myself to do everything right and be good at everything the first time I tried and would feel like a...

I wish I could say how lucky I’ve been to have family, friends and colleagues who have supported me to the extent that they have. Comedy is a lifestyle and committing to it has forced me to see a few people leave my life but thanks to comedy I have also met so many wonderful people I never would have met otherwise. This has been such an amazing ride and I can’t wait for the road to get rockier...

With improv class and Texas Roadhouse bar training my evenings have been a little on the busy side but I am pleased that I’m back to two shows a week through the end of May. My next show is Laugh Free or Die at Murphy’s Taproom in Manchester, NH. This will be my first time at LFoD since it moved from The Shaskeen and also the first time in a while that I’ve done new stuff on stage. I’ve still been...

Vanity Project Show at Improv Asylum In Review
Last Wednesday was I went with a few people from my improv level one class to see a show called Vanity Project at IA (where I am currently taking classes). It was a great show. As far as teams go there is the Main Stage who are the best of the best and do four shows Thursday through Saturday nights, other teams like this one who do one show a week or so and then house teams on Tuesday nights. (You...

I just realized something wonderful.
I am a comedian. I write and tell jokes and some people pay me to do it. I have fans both on social media sites and in real life and I have a deadline for relocating in fall of 2014. I am paying off my debt at an accelerated rate and am saving what I can each week for the move and post-move life I’m so excited to start living. I just want to send my resume out and schedule interviews and look at...

I've been invited onto the Unscene Comedy podcast...
That should be fun. I’m a little nervous though. Part of me is like, “We’ve done shows together. Pretty sure we’re friendly enough for this to not be odd.” Then the other part of me is like, “Why the hell would he want me on?” Apparently I’m paranoid about his motivations which I shouldn’t be. He’s a nice guy. I assume he wants me on...

My birthday is spicing up!
So initially, Cade (boyfriend) and I wanted to go to Vegas for my birthday so he could meet both my sisters who live in LA. Unfortunately that wasn’t fiscally possible so we’re spending a few days in Lincolnville, Maine together instead. But the weekend after my birthday my dad and I are going to Foxwoods Casino to see Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon! All former SNL cast...

Improv Level One Class Eight In Review
Well. Last night was my last class of level one. I can’t believe it’s been eight weeks since I started at Improv Asylum. That’s two whole months, guys. Mind-blowing. Our normal instructor is in Maine doing touring improv things so we had subs who were good. I kind of missed Kirsten though. She has this way of making suggestions that sound totally supportive and less like she is correctly a...

Show at Dog Bar in Gloucester In Review
So the show Monday night was my first show in over three weeks. I was a little nervous because I thought I’d have some rust to shake off but surprisingly I did pretty well! Not well for normal me but well considering my hiatus. The host seems like a very free spirit, if you will. I was next and he went onstage and said, “I forgot to ask this next comedian what she wanted for an intro. So she goes...

Almost Unsolicited Stand Up Advice
My first open mic was on Sunday May 8, 2011 at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault in Boston, MA. I knew very little then and frankly know very little now about stand up. I have however, learned everything below from experience and hope some of you can benefit a little from these collected bullets Before you read this, my disclaimer. I am incredibly new to comedy. I don’t pretend to be more knowledgeable...

Annnnnnnnnnd I'm signed up for improv level two!
I will be continuing with Wednesday nights at ImprovAsylum (Boston) since my experience so far has been positive. I think I will have a lot of the same classmates as level one which may or may not be a good thing. Stay tuned.

Time to dust off my stand up notebooks!
Alright folks: Tonight is my first show in three weeks or so and it’s at a place called The Dog Bar in Gloucester, MA. I’ve taken most of the month off from performing stand up so that I can focus on writing sketches and studying improv. I have done a little but honestly work has filled a lot of the vacuum stand up shows left. (This disappoints me.) My mom is coming to the show and bringing a few...
